Fewer hazardous chemicals in circulation means less purchasing costs, less restrictions on usage and less money spent on special disposal of hazardous waste.

Tapecon Inc. is a contract manufacturer specializing in functional printing and custom materials converting. They are looking forward to becoming a WNY Clean Production Leader and will be participating in SBR’s new lean chemical management program for cleaner air and waterways.

On this tour, Tapecon will present how they started their work on reducing chemicals of high concern. For example, an AV Deluxe Wash (a water hazard class 1) used in plate making operations was replaced with Seventh Generation Dishwasher detergent. Tapecon also uses UV and water-based inks instead of solvent based inks whenever possible.

Attendees will be given a tour of Tapecon’s facility, located in the Larkin Commerce Building and the original Larkin soap factory in the heart of Larkinville. In addition, attendees will learn how to calculate their Chemical Footprint, which is the total mass of chemicals of high concern (CoHCs) in products sold by a company, used in its manufacturing operations, its facilities and by its suppliers, and contained in packaging. Attendees will also be introduced to available resources to begin their company’s chemical reduction journey, brought together by SBR’s new program for WNY Clean Production Leaders.

There will be plenty of time for questions and answers while networking at Tapecon and at the following Holiday Cocktail at nearby Buffalo Distilling Company.

About WNY Clean Production Leaders

Generous support from EPA, awarded in the summer of 2019, has enabled SBR to bring the best in class together, to create a program with tangible chemical reduction tools & solutions for SBR members and the wider WNY community. Clean Production Action is the program’s Tool Provider (designing and delivering strategic solutions for green chemicals, sustainable materials and environmentally preferable products.) and NYS Pollution Prevention Institute is the program’s problem solver (their team of engineers and sustainability specialists have firsthand experience of the challenges facing organizations like businesses, municipalities, and communities who want to become more sustainable.) CoRE & Niagara Share are the program’s Science Based Solutions providers. SBR is bringing the resources together so the companies get a complete support package – free of charge – that’s both unique and powerful. The program runs until spring 2021.
