About The Project

As a partner in the WNY Regional Clean Energy Hub, the WNY Sustainable Business Roundtable utilizes its member business network to connect businesses and employees with clean energy information and services, actively contributing to the region’s transition to a sustainable and energy-efficient economy.

What is a Clean Energy Hub?

The Clean Energy Hubs, an initiative by New York State, are dedicated to empowering residents and businesses to embrace clean energy and make informed decisions. With 12 Clean Energy Hubs strategically placed across the state, regional partners work within their communities to educate homeowners, renters, and small businesses on clean energy options and provide access to programs and incentives designed to reduce energy usage and costs.

      SBR’s Role Within the Hub

SBR will work to connect the WNY business community to relevant incentives that will be vital in transitioning to a clean energy economy in a financially viable way. SBR will focus our efforts on businesses located in DACs, especially small and Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE).  Additionally, we will engage with employees of member businesses to connect them to available residential programs and incentives offered through NYSERDA. Lastly, SBR will continue to provide high quality education on ways to decarbonize business operations and increase energy efficiency, resulting in cost savings.

        Why Were the Hubs Created?

These Hubs were established as a strategic response to meet New York State’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and renewable energy goals, outlined in the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). The CLCPA directs 35-40% of climate and clean energy benefits towards disadvantaged communities (DACs), emphasizing an equitable distribution of investments and benefits.  The Hubs play a pivotal role in helping the state achieve both GHG emission reduction and equitable investment goals outlined in the law.

          Program Highlight:

Empower+ Offers no-cost and low-cost energy efficiency services such as insulation, air sealing, and installation of energy efficient lighting and appliances to low and moderate-income homeowners and renters.

          Program Highlight:

FlexTech Offers a cost-share toward technical services to help businesses make more informed energy decisions. A dedicated team of engineers, technology experts, and energy consultants works with customers to create a customized assessment that identifies specific opportunities for reducing energy consumption and costs.

          WNY Hub Partners

Facilitated by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) the Clean Energy Hub extends support to New Yorkers, guiding them in increasing energy efficiency, saving money, utilizing renewable energy, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The Regional Hubs provide education and guidance on the clean energy transition through trusted community partners, who are responsive to the needs of residents and community members. This involves targeted efforts in outreach, education, program enrollment, workforce development, and contractor capacity-building activities. The WNY Hub currently has seven partner organizations in its network, see below for a full list of WNY partners.
