The Borderland Music + Arts Festival celebrates the rich history and renaissance of the region with a two-day music and cultural festival set in one of the most scenic and storied grounds in all of New York State, Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora.
On top of a great line up of artists, artisans and craft beer, educating and inspiring attendees about sustainability is a huge part of Borderland. WNY Sustainable Business Roundtable will be represented with our own sustainability booth, to inform attendees about our member’s initiatives and let festival visitors compete for prizes by trying out our Sustainability Wheel. At Borderland Music + Arts Festival, they are taking great strides towards becoming a zero-waste festival with the help of Waste-Free Earth. Borderland strongly strives to be single-use plastic free whenever they can. From putting bans on single-use plastic cups and bottles, not allowing the sale of plastic package food and much more, they are actively trying to reduce the festival’s plastic footprint.
In 2018, Borderland worked with over 30 Green Team volunteers to help educate the attendees on what is compostable, recyclable and landfill items, and were able to achieve an 82% diversion rate. They also had over 100 attendees who signed their plastic pledge, picked up micro-trash, or wrote a postcard to their state senator asking them to take a stronger stance on plastic pollution.
